Origin of Memory Foam
Memory foam was first developed as a part of an important project of NASA. It was a major discovery as it relieved the pressure of body and comforted the tired nerves. Memory foam was initially designed for the astronauts but later it became so popular that it made its way to the medical industry. It has a unique ability of adjusting itself according to the body shape of the person sitting on the memory foam mattress. It spreads the pressure evenly thereby reducing the pressure points.
The original version of the memory foam that was developed for NASA was called T-Foam. It was believed to make a great cushion and bed topper, but unfortunately it could not keep up what was expected from it. It had issues related to durability and it used to develop cracks over a period of time. The maiden company to realise the growth potential of memory foam mattresses in the consumer market was Tempur-Pedic®.
This company worked on this foam and developed a new version and called it Tempur®. This foam was much more durable than the original one and also provided the benefit of decreasing the pressure. These memory foam mattresses since then have been increasingly gaining popularity. In the present age and time, there are many companies engaged in the business of manufacturing their own memory foam mattresses and toppers and each manufacturer is coming up with his unique product line.
Memory foam is known to be of great help in reducing pain in the joints. It offers cushioning effect to the body and the experience of sleeping on memory foam mattresses is just amazing. Those who sleep on memory foam mattresses are said to have a better sleep at night and also they get up fresh in the morning without any pain or discomfort.
